Punishments for 6 year old?

My step son is 6, going on 7. His mom and stepdad have told me things they do that work at home to punish him (we have him during the week right now whereas usually he's just with us on the weekends.) I take care of him and his older sister while their dad is at work during the day and even though I've been caring for him since before he was 2, it's like he's suddenly forgotten how to listen to me. I've tried EVERYTHING with him. From sending him to his room (it's enjoyable or a good time to nap for him so he doesn't care.) to raising my voice (which redirects him for a while but then I have to do it again when he starts acting up again and it just hurts my throat.) I've tried time-outs with nose in the corner to sitting on the couch and not being able to play to even letting his sister take care of it when he hurts her. Nothing is working and I'm out of ideas. As a step-mom I don't feel comfortable spanking and while I may do it when my own child is old enough and misbehaving like he is, I honestly don't think it would even work with my stepson. Recently I've been making him run laps around our backyard (not that big) but it seems like he dreads doing it but doesn't really care that he has to when he does get in trouble. I guess what I'm looking for is creative (non corporal) punishments that will work for a child who seems not to care when he does get in trouble. Any ideas?

I feel very betrayed and lied to, but according to him, she called him and he missed the phone call, so decided to call her back. That wouldn't bother me, but I don't know whether to believe him. She texted him and he ignored her, but he feels compelled to return her call? I don't know whether I should let it bother me, given my previous experience with her, or if I should just let it go. I'm just worried because he felt he had to lie to me, and it makes me wonder whether he has really been honest all this time. Especially because he recently confessed to me that, had we not been together, he would have considered her for a romantic relationship. What should I do? Should I let the lie about the phone call slide?

Married friend not acting married?

I'm 22 and so is my married friend. Shes been married since she was 18 and her husband is in the marines. He signed up shortly after getting married against her wishes. My little sister found 2 baby birds, dont know what kind, just out of the shell and we cant find the nest. They are almost hairless, cannot open their eyes and dont "chirp/cheep". They will open their mouths for food (she is mixing warm milk with egg whites/berries or worm). She has kept them inside overnight and we just tried making a little nest to put them in a tree to see if momma bird will come find them. Birds chirping at night? ?

This week these birds that must have a nest in a tree outside my window have been chirping late into the night. It only started this past week and I'm not sure what kind of bird would be up this late because the chirping doesn't start until around 11 pm. Should I buy a chihuahua puppy for my 12 year old daughter?

My daughter wants a chihuahua because the are loving companions to play and snuggle with. She understands all that is involved with caring for this breeder in great detail. She has researched heaps about the breed on the internet and has ordered heaps of books about dog care and training from the library.She is not involved in any school activities,does not go out with friends so she has heaps of free time to care for a dog she is willing to spend all her free time with it daily and let it sleep in her lap while she does homework. I know she will spend all her time with it and clean up its messes and has been reading a lot about training dogs.She also knows a lot of information on choosing from a good breeder and has drawn up a feeding and house-training schedule for one. We are able to afford a good chihuahua puppy with vet visits and care supplies. She has also drawn up things we need to do to puppy proof the house. She gets mostly B grades at school. Though I'm concerned about if it is appropriate to buy a dog for a child. We got her a cockateil last year and she still independently takes good care of that bird. Should I buy her a chihuahua? I'm posting this under the gay section of Answers because, honestly, I think the reason might be because of my sexuality. I was a very good student. I had a 3.7 GPA in Economics. But after college, I found it impossible to get a job. I went to a very good school, and all the people I went to college with got good, professional jobs that paid six figures. But the best I could do was a minimum wage job as a cashier at a grocery store, which I got fired from because I would get too nervous to count accurate cash. I felt like such a loser. Could employers be rejecting me because of my voice? I have a high-pitched, effeminate voice ("the gay accent") that people have made fun of me for my entire life. In high school, I even developed a phobia about talking because everyone made fun of me so much. I just stopped talking in public altogether. I hate my voice, but I really can't change it. Why are my guinea pigs so shy when they are out of their cage?

i know its good to give them time out of their cage but everytime i put them on the ground to run around, their so scared, i put tunnels on the ground and blankets and they straight away hide under, they dont do this when they are in their cage, when they are on the floor they run in my lap or up my sleeve they look more scared than having fun, is it bad if don't give them floor time? i still let them on my bed and run around and they are fine with that, every second day i let them outside in their hutch and they are fine, its only when they are on carpet or tiles in my house, why are they so scared of everything else but their hutch cage & my bed?

What Could I have Done Differently?

My Guinea Pig sow died Saturday from childbirth. I'm not sure exactly how old she was, but my guess is 7 months or so. She had two still born pups on Friday night at 9:30 pm- they were obviously under-developed because they had no hair, fused eyelids and ear buds that were not fully formed. After she had them, I removed them from the cage to let her rest...but I saw no blood, placenta or cords of any kind. The next day she was lethargic and obviously in pain. I noticed some bloody discharge in her cage. I wrapped her in a towel and put a hot compress on her to try to induce the discharge of the placenta and rubbed her belly gently. She seemed septic already and was shivering, and I though of giving her infants tylenol susp.-but I didn't want to give her anything that could damage her liver. My only thought was if the placenta didn't come out, or another pup was in there...she would die of sepsis. So, I put gentle pressure on her belly right above her vagina and held onto the cord coming out of her, but didn't tug or pull...yet she died on my lap after about a minute of trying at around 4pm, less than 24 hours after giving birth. I find it hard to believe she was that septic already. Was it me pulling the cord? Maybe the babies were dead for awhile and she was septic from that to begin with? I have no experience with this and her widow will remain alone because I DO NOT want to deal with this again. Does anyone have any input? Is this common?

When I'm in the kitchen of my house there are often birds chirping outside, sometimes very peaceful, other times there is a constant LOUD chirping when I'm doing things I probably shouldn't be doing. I was tripping thinking it was a sign so I went back to the other side and heard the sea gulls.. wow I must really look crazy right now. Uhm but yeah so once I threw out the food the sea gulls stopped being so loud & the peaceful bird wasnt chirping constantly any more. idk its weird but thats what I think? Or maybe is it the devil? Because the sea gulls were SCARY sounding.. would God try to scare me? I asked him for a sign when I was sitting down praying for the birds to stop and asked him if it was a sign and my left leg would twitch.. I didnt make it. Will a mother bird come back to take care of its 3 week old baby bird.?

There were 3 birds that fell out of their nest(I think they're called fledgings) and my cat killed 2 of them but I saved the other one. Its entirly covered in feathers but only down feahers and I put it in a cardboarbox with grass and some leaves. Its always chirping and I have to feed it every 15 mins.( worms). I've only been doing it for about 5 hours now but I just want to do what I want to do, not feed this bird. Its mom or dad or whatever have been sitting in the trees around and making noises. Cats are fickle, that's why I like them. In my experience they like whoever's new or whoever has the food. It also helps if you have had them since they were very young as they come to rely on you. But there is no way you can train them to know they're "your cat" like you can train a dog by acting like the pack leader. If you act like you need them more than they need you, chances are they will be less inclined to treat you as anything other than the help, so don't coddle her. And remember, female cats are usually more independent than males, which is why they can seem aloof.

Baby Robin...small, and not sure if I should put him back in his nest....?

If you can reach the nest you can go ahead and try to put him back. If he hops out again then he probably is a fledgling and will be ok. The other answers are wrong, robins don't have a strong enough sense of smell to know if the baby has been touched. The mother won't abandon it.

The mom was taking very good care of her babies for around a week. 1 baby is 9 days old, the other baby is 7 days old, and the third baby is only a day old! There is still one more egg and I candled that egg and the baby is still a live inside and i feel the baby moving inside and hear tapping. Well the mom is starting to come out of the nest box A LOT! She comes out and her and the male keep regurgitating and when she is done, she doesn't go back inside. The babies will be calling for her and she doesn't go back in. She goes in only sometimes now. The newly hatched baby is gonna be 2 days old by tomorrow and i checked him and he isn't being fed. He should have by now. He keeps going under neath the bigger chicks so maybe the mom doesn't see him? When i move that baby to the side, he just crawls back under them. This new baby keeps chirping a lot though for food and hasn't been fed yet. It would be horrible for this baby to die. I do know that they still go in sometimes but its just that the mom isn't sitting on her babies much now and they are cuddling together for warmth and that i still don't see food in that new babies crop. So....What do i do? And how do i know for sure that the mom is definably not taking care of them. I didn't really want to hand feed them cuz I don't know how... please help!

Guinea pig taming problem!?!?

Is there something wrong with my Budgie?

I just got a girl budgie 2 days ago. I know that since shes new, she's not going to be very social right away, but is it normal for her to be trembling? Help Taming Parakeet?

I suggest gettin two different cages for the two birds until it is tame. Bad habits can rub off on the already trained bird as well and they wont really bond to you if they have each other. To tame the other bird I suggest sitting next to its cage and talking softly too it for about ten minutes a few times a day. Do that for a week or so or until it feels ok with you being there. Then try putting your hand in the cage and just leave it there with some millet in your hand but if he/she starts flying around the cage and freaking out back off immediately and start again. once that is done take her/him out of the cage and just sit with it awhile giving it treats and talking softly. Do the step up step down thing as well with these birds repetition is always best. Birds like consistency. Dont rush the process though or you could destroy whatever trust the bird has for you. This is what I have done with all my birds and they are great. Just remember to respect their space that cage is their home where they feel safe and can/will retreat to when they feel scared. If they do that put them back for a while and try again in an hour or so. I hoped this helps!

My little bird died, I can't stop crying?

That should attest to the fact that cats have feelings and make you love him all the more. As far as your new kitty goes I think you should put her with Otis. Please don't punish him because he is frightened by her. They may spat for a while but believe me when I tell you this - they WILL eventually love each other and you will see them cuddling up and sleeping or washing each other. You must take Otis out of isolation immediately because you are only making matters worse. Don't fear for Vera. She has claws and when she needs to she will use them. As far as training Otis. Have you tried the squirt bottle filled with water? That works with 99.9% of all cats for training them what not to do or where not to go. A low energy breed, small dog?

My leopard geckos toes are gone!?

I recently purchased a leopard gecko. I don't know anything about it cause the person who sold it to me said she got it from a reptile show who didn't know anything about it ether. I think its quite old cause it moves rather slow and is more rinkily than my other gecko. When I bought her I knew something was wrong cause she had a very unique and pretty pattern that iv never seen before but she was only 20 dollars. I inspected her before I got her and she didn't seem sick. She also had a kinda skinny tail but I was sure I could fix that with some butterworms and waxworms. anyway I looked at her toes today and the tips were missing on alot of them! She only has a few good nails let. The others were all bent and mangled so I clipped them(very carefully) on one foot she has only 1 nail! I feel sorry for her as she cant climb well and is slow. All the toes with missing nail have healed up so I see no need to take her to a vet. She has been eating very well to. Today she ate about 6 butterworms and 10 black soldier fly larvae. The other did not eat. Will the nails ever grow back? Or is she doomed to have no nails for the rest of her life? If you can't take it to a rehabilitation facility, you should really put it out of its misery. The chances for a healthy baby bird being rehabed by somebody with little experience is very low, and with an injury like this, I can almost guarantee that he wont survive. I'm really sorry that thats probably the only thing you can do, but you have the chance to do it in a humane way. My recommendation (if its still a small bird) would be to place him in a freezer bag and try to press out as much air as possible, then place him gently in your freezer. This is how a vet told me to put rescued baby bunnies to sleep, and apparently its the most peaceful at-home method for euthanasia. I'm really sorry, but thats probably the kindest thing you can do for it now.

Whats wrong with my kittens back leg?

The kitten isn't actually mine, she's my moms friends kitten. They said the kitten is 4 months old and that she fell of the bed and hurt her leg, even if that was true the kitten is smaller than my aunts 4 WEEK old kittens and still isn't walking like she should. I was able to get the kitten to eat for the first time yesterday and she started moving around in my lap more but if u put her on the floor she just plops over on her side. She moves and stretches out her front paws but nothing much with the back ones. The only major thing she did while laying on the floor was scooted back or kinda jumped back because she was scared of the toy. what could be wrong with her leg? my mom and i were thinking maybe she's just double jointed but the chick swears up and down she's not so what do we do?

Can I get my canine teeth removed?

All four of my canine teeth are not in line and over lap. The top two are so high up near the bottom of my nose. I'm enlisting in the Marine Corps next Summer and i'm not going in with braces and I know my teeth would need braces for a long time to fix my canine teeth, so would I be able to just get them pulled and have braces on before I enlist to fix the teeth that are slightly crooked because of the canine teeth. Okay last night I went to my best friends bday party. We were watching movies all night and her brother came downstairs and started watching the movies with us. Well I was sitting in the center of the couch and my other friend sat beside me. Well my bffs bro came and sat by me,and was putting his head on my lap! Why does my webcam microphone not work? :(?

i have a windows vista computer and the microphone is inside the lap top i don't understand why when i record something on my web cam and play it back you can't hear the sound.
